The emphasis on potential application of lignin degrading microorganism in the biotransformation of lignocellulosic substrates for the production of lignin model compounds were extensively studied in the research perspective and proven significantly. This book “ENZYMATIC BIOTRANSFORMATION AND DECOLOURIZATION” is developed under the dye degradation project work, supported by Gulbarga University, Karnataka, India. The general background on the production and use of laccase in the decolourization of dyes and biotransformation of lignin model compounds are described. Methods employed for the studies and the use of different types of media for the maintenance of bacterial and fungal cultures, various biochemical techniques such as chromatographic, spectroscopic, enzymatic and native PAGE as well as SDS-PAGE that are employed to study the purification of enzyme to homogeneity. The use of agricultural byproducts for the production of ligninolytic enzymes that are involved in the degradation of lignin and decolourization of dyes.
