Explosive welding is a cold pressure wilding process in which the contaminant surface films are plastically jetted of the base metals as result of high-pressure collision of the two metals. Explosive welding enables acceptably strong weld to be produced between many dissimilar and similar metal weld such as brass/steel, copper/steel, aluminum/steel, stainless steel/steel, lead/steel, high tensile steel/mild steel etc. during the high-velocity collision of metal plates, a jet is formed between the metal plates, if the collision angle and the collision velocity are in the range required for bonding. Contaminant surface films which are required for the establishment of metallurgical bond are swept away in the jet. The metal plates, cleaned by the jet action, are joined at an internal point under the influence of the very high pressure that is obtained near the collision point.
