There is a scarcity of research on the physical location of employees and supervisors and its relationship to employee job satisfaction. To summarize, this research study was one of the first studies to explore in quantitative terms the correlation between the locations of employees and supervisors and job satisfaction. The main proposition of this study is that the physical location between an employee and his or her immediate supervisor correlates to the employee’s job satisfaction score reported via the Spector Job Satisfaction Survey. The understanding of the use of physical space in the workplace is paramount to the development of future physical layouts in the workplace and organizational structures that lead to increase job satisfaction and productivity. This study represents a beginning to exploring other potential drivers of employee job satisfaction. This study contributes to the limited literature in how the physical orientation of an organization impacts employee job satisfaction. It is hoped that this study may drive future research on the subject.
