“Nine out of every ten disasters are now climate related". During the period from 1996 to 2006, one-third of the world’s population has been directly affected by climate change and 700,000 people have fallen victim to climate related impacts. Those most vulnerable to sea-level rise as well as more frequent and severe droughts and inundations, living primarily in less developed countries in Africa, Asia or Latin America, are often forced to migrate since they do lack the means to handle those occurrences. But what are the possible consequences of such unprecedented large-scale human displacement? This essay tries to answer the question with regards one the possible major repercussions of climate change: security.
